ACSO Criminal Justice Technician Records in Gainesville, Florida

Clerical and technical work involving varied and complex typing and criminal records processing. Requires some independent judgment and initiative in the development of specialized work methods and procedures and their application in the Records Bureau of the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Work is performed under the direction and supervision of a designated Supervisor, with detailed instructions given in cases involving new or unusually difficult problems. Assignments may be made through the operation of established unit procedures. Performance is evaluated through observation, results obtained and employee performance appraisals.


  • Train in, and perform, general and specialized clerical functions associated with a law enforcement agency.

  • Accurately file and retrieve recorded materials.

  • Establish, maintain and warehouse various files.

  • Type correspondence, reports, records and other documents from originals submitted by various criminal justice sources.

  • Verify, code and/or classify incoming materials and documents.

  • Do criminal checks and other types of record checks for authorized criminal justice agents or agencies.

  • Take/relay messages and answering routine questions.

  • Attend work promptly on a continual and regular basis.

  • Answer the telephone and/or operate the switchboard.

  • Take fingerprints.

  • Show up for work as scheduled.

  • High School Diploma/GED Required.


  • The ability to type 30 cwpm.

  • Knowledge of most current software program(s) utilized by ACSO.

  • Must be trainable in all essential Records Bureau functions.


  • FDLE Teletype Operator certification (obtained after employment at ACSO cost unless otherwise stipulated).

  • None for initial hire.
