Dow Chemical Senior Research Associate in Leland, Mississippi
Dow AgroSciences has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Associate located in Leland, Mississippi. Under the general supervision of the Research Operations Leader (Ops Lead), the Senior Research Associate (SRA) will be responsible for the implementation of the cotton, corn and soybean field R&D programs in an efficient and safe manner.
The SRA will apply field breeding methods, provide field plot design expertise, interpersonal skills, agronomic expertise, and field equipment experience. In addition, the SRA will be a site team leader and will share in administrative leadership responsibilities for the technician staff including coaching to maximize performance, build a culture of safety, adhere to Dow AgroSciences (DAS) compliance policies, and develop careers. The SRA, in collaboration with the Ops Lead and assistance of the center administrative assistant, will manage the daily business tasks required to maintain efficient business operations. All actions will be conducted in a fair and safe manner.

Conduct various research activities, including but not limited to: assist in coordinating breeding efforts among breeders and across centers; develop and manage agronomic procedures across all crops at the center; oversee sample processing, seed packaging, and planting plan organization; coordinate equipment maintenance; and interact with the field agronomist to coordinate staff for maintaining off-site test locations.
Cooperate with the site administrative assistant and various business functions within DAS and Dow Chemical to manage the local business activities that are necessary to efficiently operate the research center.
Be a team leader and share administrative leadership responsibilities for the center staff responsible for the implementation of projects. Responsible for coaching of staff at the center to maximize performance, build a culture of safety, adhere to DAS compliance policies, and develop their careers.
Ensure that DAS safety, Department of Transportation (DOT) and center regulations and policies are enforced.
In cooperation with the Ops Leader, supervise and plan duties for full-time and part-time positions at the Stoneville, MS site to implement the research plan of work in the most efficient and safe manner.
Collaborate with other research centers within DAS to exchange ideas, plots, data and other items to maximize performance of the team.
Participate in sales and agronomy meetings and support as needed.
Travel to outlying trial locations and other research centers and laboratories as needed.

Bachelor's degree in Crop Genetics, Agronomy or a related field
Personal experience in managing irrigated cotton, corn and/or soybean crops
Solid understanding of agronomy, statistics, field equipment and customer’s needs
Ability to take initiative and work effectively on teams.
Must have enthusiasm and aptitude for learning and continuous improvement of critical research activities and have well developed computer skills.
Strong interpersonal effectiveness and personal leadership skills to successfully lead teams and people and understand the importance of developing the careers of direct reports.
- Experience with crop breeding program is desirable
