Job Summary

The Database developer role is responsible for developing, testing, improving and maintaining new and existing databases to help users retrieve data effectively. This position will work with other developers writing and optimizing in-application SQL statements as necessary, and establishing best practices. This position is also responsible for interacting with customers and resolving incidents in an efficient and effective manner. Communication and organization skills are keys for this position, along with a problem-solution attitude

Section A – Specific Responsibilities

  • Create / Maintain SSIS Tasks (SQL Server Integration Services).

  • Convert databases from all source databases to SQL server 2016 and Sybase anywhere 16 databases.

  • Merge databases of SQL server 2012/2016 and Sybase SQL Anywhere 16.0 databases.

  • Understand and assist in developing most streamlined ETL process for extracting data from disparate environments and loading into SQL Server.

  • Write and maintain stored procedures to load data using T-SQL (Transact-SQL).

  • Create / Maintain Reports using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).

  • Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, database administration and maintenance, performance tuning, query tuning and optimization, recovery, migration, etc.

  • Provide technical support, investigation, triage and resolve incidents as assigned.

  • Ability to weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs and choose the best solution based on cost, effectiveness, scalability and performance.

  • Prepare documentations and specifications.

  • Daily monitoring, assessment, and optimization of critical components delivered to customers.

  • Implement new changes in the production environment in accordance to established change management policies.

  • Validate and improve existing operational processes.

  • Research and investigate new tools and practices to address operational concerns.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support McKesson Canada.

Section C – Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or College, Information Systems or related field required.

  • Strong database knowledge - Microsoft SQL Server 2016.

  • 3-5 years development experience in SSIS, SSRS and stored procedures.

  • 3-5 years development experience in relational databases (SQL Server / Oracle) building logical/physical data models using complex joins and queries.

  • Knowledge of all phases of the ETL process.

  • Windows 7/10/2012 support and configuration.

  • Batch files writing.

  • IIS configuration.

  • Exceptional attention to details.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written communication skills.

  • Work both independently and collaboratively in a team.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Must be flexible as hours may include weekend or evening work.

  • Provide 3rd level support for assigned problems; interact with 2nd level of support for operational / production items.

  • Ability to present and explain technical information to diverse types of audiences in a way that establishes rapport and gains understanding.
