CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST

Summary: Under the direction of the Vice President of Integrated Behavioral Health, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), and the Director of Behavioral Health, the Behavioral Health Clinical Nurse Specialist oversees the education and implementation of evidence based practice initiatives. The CNS assesses the education and training needs of all behavioral health (BH) department employees to assure competency in collaboration with the integrated behavioral health team. Plans, coordinates, organizes and provides Continuing Education Units for RNs, LCSWs, and LICSWs and training to meet assessed needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of education and training provided. Trends and analyzes all programs for their impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes. Provides supervision, support, development and mentoring for all staff in the Behavioral Health Department. Provides RN Nurse Leader oversight in conjunction with the Director of Behavioral Health. Conducts BH provider consults within the hospital and Emergency Department (ED) under the direction of the BH Medical Director. Works closely with the Director of Behavioral Health Services, Chief Behavioral Health Medical Director, and CNO as a cohesive unit to meet the vision and goals of the department. Meets expectations of the department and organization and is held to the highest standards set forth by state, federal and accrediting bodies. Works towards accountability of that expectation and educates others to the same. Sustains Pathways to Excellence standards for Shared governance and High Reliability Organizational Standards (HRO). Consistently acts as a patient and employee advocate. Improves quality of patient care and patient's perspective of their care as evidenced by HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems). Ensures that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Follows the American Nursing Association (ANA) Standards.
Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing. Must have Master's in Nursing in advanced practice in psychiatric nursing and active RI license as a PCNS or APRN.
Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of RI. Certifications as a Nurse Specialist in Psychiatry. BLS required; ACLS preferred.
Experience: Five to seven years of successful clinical and educational training experience. Experience in psychiatric acute care is required. Managerial and training experience is preferred.
