Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Install, maintain, diagnose and repair equipment related to the unloading, loading, transfer and storage of bulk cargo, including bulldozers, front-end loaders, forklifts and fleet trucks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A position with broad assignment under periodic supervision, involving the successful maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of rolling equipment, most notably CAT D10 dozers, wheel loaders, forklifts and fleet vehicles.

  • Maintain maintenance shop, parts inventory, documentation and records as required

  • Housekeeping and general maintenance as required

  • Upkeep of assigned equipment or tools

  • Perform any other type of terminal function as trained and instructed by terminal supervision

Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Three years of demonstrated work experience required on heavy equipment, to include CAT dozers adn wheel loaders.

  • Must possess and be able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude

  • Must be able to demonstrate troubleshooting and repair skills

  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in heavy equipment and vehicle repair and maintenance

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certification in diesel repair and/or welding preferred

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC clearance or any other clearance as required

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to execute and maintain necessary records

  • Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions, including manufacturer's service specifications

  • Must be able to take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details and work cooperatively with others

  • Must be able to read directions and prints as well as to inspect machine parts closely to ensure they meet specifications

  • Must be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, in English

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to use respiratory protective equipment as outlined in OSHA 1910.134

  • Must be able to use hand tools

  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work

  • Must be able to perform work requiring frequent stooping and bending

  • Must be able to stand for protracted periods of time

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able and willing to respond to call out to perform maintenance duties

  • Work at heights up to 120 feet

  • Requires work in all types of weather conditions

  • Must be available to work all shifts and weekends

  • Must be available to respond to call out as assigned on a 24/7 basis

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Above the minimum requirements: no required but advantageous in this position.)

  • Formal mechanical training

  • Certification in diesel repair and/or welding
